"We are used to understanding the purpose of art in Romantic terms, as the fruit of individual artistic genius, that we forget that for most of history art had a plainer and more direct purpose: it was a tool of education.

The point of art was to render tough or knotty lessons easier to absorb; to nudge our recalcitrant minds towards accepting ideas that we might nod along to but then ignore if they were not stated in especially varnished and graceful terms."

Lessons in the art studio Karton are based on individual approach. We are interested in creating a friendly atmosphere that contributes to the development of personal skills in art.

Karton art studio is a space where we are open for everyone. We approach everyone individually as each of us has different personal goals. It is very important for us to take into account everyone's interests and develop a program of the lessons based on that. To attend our lessons, the most important thing is to have INTEREST un DESIRE to do so, previous knowledge is not necessary.

For the past years we have been working with everyone - starting from children of 5 years old, to teenagers, youngsters and adults. We have written 5 youth initiatives and got a financial support from the Riga department of education, culture and sport to organize different events for youngsters that were free for them to attend.
We have been preparing youngsters for entrance exams to Janis Rozentals Riga Art Highschool and to the Art Academy of Latvia.

As we are art students ourselves, we are organizing events that would anyway be present in our everyday lives - creative evenings, movie nights, exhibition visits, plein-airs all year round. Once in a while we organize our own exhibition or make a project together
( YF SHOP ; YUMTA).

We are open to new people, technologies, medias and collaborations; going on plein-airs; to teach and to learn; that is why once a month we are organizing creative evenings where we invite everyone to come to meet us, get to know each other, talk and discuss ideas.

Karton team members are youngsters and adults that are interested in art. We are constantly learning and developing ourselves and next to that we are offering to share our experiences and knowledge gained in different art schools.
