Support transit refugees

The Young Folks volunteer center is located at the Pragas iela 1 bus station and helps all refugees without exception. The center began its work on May 21 due to the full-scale war in Ukraine and at the moment there are 116 YF volunteers in the team. These are young people and teenagers who, on their own initiative, help refugees.
Our task is to help purchase tickets for transit ferries and trains, find and pay for accommodation before departure, provide free transfers, medical care and meals. All costs are covered by donations from volunteers who want to help those who need it now. And thanks to you, someone will be able to find a new, safe home.
The point from Young Folks is located at the bus station Pragas iela 1, it is open every day from 8 am to 12 am and consists of a team of 116 volunteers. The center began its work two months ago and has been helping refugees every day since then. You can help us continue to provide these people with safety and assistance. Any contribution provides one person with food and the opportunity to leave for a new home.

Approximately 150-200 refugees pass through the checkpoint at the bus station every day. In May it was 4,000 people, in June - 5,000. These are two categories: transit workers and those who want to stay in Latvia. Most of the Ukrainians who come to the station are in transit, they are usually in Riga for 1-2 nights, or even for 2-4 hours. The majority either have no money, or very little, no home, be in a state of loss and fear.

We help them navigate the city, provide advice, provide medical care and food. We also buy tickets to the country of destination and pay for temporary accommodation. The most popular routes are to Germany, Poland, Norway or Ukraine.

If people plan to stay in Latvia, then we send them to the refugee center at Kalku iela 1, where state organizations help them settle down. We also contact border guards who help with further accommodation and paperwork. Often people are assigned to a distant city, then there are difficulties with moving, because often these are aged people, people with limited mobility or with bags. In this case, the center helps with logistics and finds a volunteer who agrees to take them.

Through the mail ukraineyougfolks@gmail.com or through the volunteers YF Telegram, we work around the clock. Refugees can contact us from another country to plan their journey in advance.
People are forced to run from war, from fear of death, and Young Folks cannot close their eyes to this.
